Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan recently shared his views on political music and the band’s absence from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in a revealing interview on the Reinvented With Jen Eckhart podcast, exclusively previewed by Billboard.

Despite being a self-proclaimed political enthusiast, Corgan admitted, “I can’t think of any political song I’ve ever written.” However, he emphasized that he pays keen attention to politics and believes that artists should express their views in their own ways, regardless of public acceptance. Corgan clarified that while he personally hasn’t delved into political messaging in his music, he respects the right of artists who choose to do so.

As the Smashing Pumpkins gear up for Green Day’s global stadium tour alongside Rancid and The Linda Lindas in support of their new album, “Saviors,” Corgan touched upon their musical journey. The album’s lead single, “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” written by Billie Joe Armstrong almost four years ago, has already made an impact on various Billboard charts, reaching the top of Rock Airplay and securing the 22nd spot on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs since its October release.

In a previous statement, Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt shed light on the making of the hit single, stating, “We’re not a parody of who we are, and songs like that need time to be fleshed out. If that means just sitting back and letting life happen, so be it.” The anticipation continues regarding where “Saviors” will land on the Billboard 200.
