I should say, the first of FOUR Avatar sequels.

It’s time to milk the Avatar cash cow, everyone!

Just like any extremely successful movie in Hollywood, the creators/producers/writers/etc. need to get as MUCH money out of the idea as possible, since no one has original ideas anymore!

James Cameron just revealed that the first sequel, Avatar 2, will come December 18, 2020, and the other sequels will follow on December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 (Heck yeah! My birthday!), and lastly December 19, 2025.

Aaaand of course, we had to see what Twitter was saying about the whole thing.

Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang, all stars of the original movie, are said to be returning for the sequels (even though Weaver’s character died). HA spoiler alert, too late! Cameron explained why there are four movies coming at last years CinemaCon:

“It’s going to be a true epic saga that’s told in this rich and complex world, but we’ve begun to bump up against the limitations of our art form. There’s just too much story, and too many great visual ideas for two sequels. So we talked to Fox and we expanded it to three sequels. And then as the writing process has continued, and now that the script work is finishing up, it’s not three. It looks like it’s four.”

The original Avatar film netted $2.7 billion and won three Oscars, so I guess it’s not the WORST idea.
