The following video has been posted online (and once taken down) because of violent comments against an American hunter who posted the video of himself taking down a black bear with a spear.

The video is also being criticized by the Provincial Government “The type of archaic hunting seen in the recently posted video of a hunter spearing a black bear, allegedly in Alberta, is unacceptable,” also “Work is well underway to update Alberta’s hunting regulations. We will introduce a ban on spear hunting this fall as part of those updated regulations.”

The SPCA plans to review the kill to determine if it is ethical because of the entertainment factor with the video.

The president of the Alberta Fish and Game Association, said his organization had been pushing for a ban on spears.
