More evacuations in Fort McMurray yesterday with 8 thousand people in work camps forced out because of smoke, and the threat of a fire that’s moving quickly with the wind. The fire was about 5km away from Fort McMurray last night, but winds could change that quickly.

A little closer to home, residents of Fox Creek say that the fire burning north of them could threaten the town, and should be prepared to be put on a 2 hour evacuation notice. Some residents near Little Smoky were forced out of homes because of that fire yesterday.

Here’s an update as of last night:

The Little Smoky Area Wildfire evacuation order remains in effect. The size of the evacuation area has not grown. Highway 43 remains open but may be impacted by smoke and emergency crews in the area.

Road blocks are in place and access to the evacuation area is not permitted. Industry must contact Agriculture and Forestry’s Industry Liason Officer regarding access to critical infrastructure.
