It’s been talked about for quite some time, but the Alberta Government will start fighting back against distracted driving with new legislation involving demerit points.

Distracted driving fines have already been increased to $287 and will soon come with a 3 demerit hit as well (Jan 1st)

Distracted driving includes any cell phone use, grooming, or activity that is generally distracting you from driving. The new system is being applauded, and should help limit distracted driving, because repeat offenders could lose their license via demerits.
